In "Why Community Service is So Important for College Admissions", Jason Patel provides insight on the importance of community service. Of course, at this point, we all know that it looks good on our college applications, but just how important is it?
In this article, Patel explores a survey conducted on 264 admissions officers at U.S. colleges. In his findings, he discovers that 58% of the admissions officers agreed that community service has a positive impact on their acceptance into the university. Additionally, 53% said that it was a tie breaker between equally qualified applicants.

According to the admissions officers, applicants should aim to have between 50-200 hours of meaningful community service hours. It is important because it indicates that the applicant is more likely to add value to the university through active involvement and commitment to the universities mission and values.
